HDR Island Sunset

Just outside of Savannah, GA is Tybee Island which is a small 3 mile island, which happens to be the site where this weeks picture was taken. This was the best sunset during the week I spent on the island, when I processed this photograph I pushed the colors to the extreme side of things.  I like to do this every once in awhile, I can’t help it I just love color! I have another set of brackets of the same sunset taken at a different location and when I process that one I will try and keep it realistic. I have posted lots of new photographs to my portfolio within the last week at www.nfirebaughphoto.com you should head over there and check them out. Prints are for sale with prices starting at $7.99 for 8″x10″ prints.

Hey guys I’m back from Georgia, the week went by way too fast… But no worries I captured lots of photographs to share of my journey.  I have spent the last two evenings sorting through the 2,000 photographs to pick which ones need to be edited and shared. Some of you may wonder how I store my photographs and keep up with them all…. Well on a trip  I usually pack one or two portable hard drives which I download the pictures from my camera to the drives (1TB LaCie Rugged) and another copy on my laptop.  Then once I’m at home I use Lightroom 4 to catalog all of them, the ones to edit I give 4 stars too and the ones that are completed get 5 stars, my smart categories pull these into folders where I can view the ones to edit or post.

The Sun Setting Over The Hill

Just Another Sunset

I had a great time with the Exposure Roanoke group on a photo walk at the Greenfield Center in Botetourt,VA. The theme for the walk was bird photography,  as we walked around the lake we identified birds and took some photographs. But before long my eyes left the bird scene and began to wonder around the landscape. The rolling hills made for some different photographs and I captured a few that I think are worth sharing. Below is one of the sun setting just behind the tree over the hill. This was a 7exp bracket using my Canon 6D which was then edited in Photomatix Pro (my favorite HDR software), Lightroom, Photoshop, and Topaz Adjust. This also was a good test for my new tripod from 3 Legged Thing so far I like it. 🙂

Kindred Spirit Mailbox On Bird Island,NC

I Saw It In A Magazine

I visited this spot last year while on vacation not knowing what landscapes awaited me on Bird Island. NC. I first assumed birds so the camera I grabbed for the walk was my T1i and my 70-200mm F4L. On the walk down the beach a little girl approached me and asked “Are you going to the mailbox?” I had no idea what she was talking about and politely said no. After walking what seemed to be eternity I could see a lonely flag blowing in the breeze and as I got closer I could see a path going up to this flag pole. Once I got up to the path I noticed two benches and a mailbox which read Kindred Spirit on the side of it, so I backed up into the surf and snapped off a few photographs of the mailbox. One of these photographs I uploaded to Flickr around last August and it got a little bit of interest, that was until I received a call from Guideposts Magazine asking to use the photo for an upcoming article in the April Edition. To celebrate this event I’m offering 20% off all print orders from www.nfirebaughphoto.com to get this special offer just use the code PUB20 during checkout! I want to send out a special THANKS to all my fans, friends and supporters who keep me going.

Burwell School

My son has been playing travel hockey this season, which has meant a few trips to North Carolina. These trips have allowed me to visit some new places and take a few good photographs of some historic locations. This past weekend we visited Hillsborough, NC and one of the places we stopped was the Burwell School which dates back to the 1800’s.  This house was once the home of the Burwell family and also Elizabeth Keckly (Keckley) who was a very successful business woman and created 19th century dresses for many prominent people in the US. To learn more about this historic site in North Carolina please visit this site http://www.burwellschool.org/. Below is an HDR image I shot inside the house which I left at a slight angle because I liked the feel of the picture. Some may disagree on this decision but hey why not try new things and try to stand out? This was created using a 5exp bracket shot using my Canon 6D and my Promote Control the processing was done in Photomatix Pro, Lightroom 4 and Topaz Adjust.
