Playing In The Ocean

This year during vacation I ventured out into the ocean about knee deep with my Induro Tripod and Canon 60D fitted with the 70-200mm and shot wave after wave as they rolled in. It was a lot of fun trying to capture both the beauty of nature and the power of the ocean. I tried many different shutter speeds from .5 second to 1/60th trying to blend both the motion and stopping time at that perfect moment. I found this to be very therapeutic and calming even though having your camera gear in the mighty ocean would have frightened me to death a few years ago.

Sony A6000 Leica Lens Test

Testing The Leica 135mm F4 Tele Elmar

These are my first shots using the Leica 135mm F4 Tele Elmar lens on the Sony A6000. Well in this Sony A6000 Leica Lens Test right off the bat I could tell these images were sharper than the 16-50mm that came in the kit. I’m using the Metabones Leica M to Sony E mount adapter to allow this lens to be used on the A6000. The lens is manual focus but focus peaking still works! Also another thing I found is even though the lens is manual aperture also all of the shooting modes seem to still work, like intelligent auto still does a fairly good job even without any lens electronics. Below are a couple quick shots I grabbed while testing the lens out.

Spring Macro Photography

In the spring I tend to use my Canon 100mm macro lens to death trying to capture every little bloom and bud in sight.  Spring macro photography has to be one of my favorite things about photography! Every year the same plants come and go but the photographs you take each year are always unique. This could be because of the subjects color or size difference each year or maybe you catch one of your subjects in the best light possible. That’s why I like shooting the same flowers and trees year after year.

This is one of my latest edits that I processed using a plugin called Topaz Restyle you can find my review of it here.  I took this shot using a Canon 60D and the Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro Lens handheld in aperture priority mode set at f2.8 and an ISO of 200. This combination of body and lens is an excellent setup for anyone looking to get into macro photography!

Sometimes the simple things are often overlooked when out taking photographs. Often there are amazing photographs waiting to be taken right under your nose. Like this simple bloom I found on a tree today it could have been easily missed. I used a Canon 60D with a 100mm f2.8 macro lens to capture this image during the early morning light.

Photographing Waterfalls

Yesterday I had the chance to get out and photograph this beautiful 200′ waterfall. Photographing waterfalls usually combines a few things I love hiking (usually to get to the waterfall) and water (I’ve loved fishing since I was a kid).  A few new pieces of gear I tried out during this excursion included the new Mind Shift Panorama 180. I will be writing a full review on this bag once I get to test it out extensively, but so far I love it!.  The second piece of gear was a new tripod setup, which included the Induro AT 214 legs. The tripod legs worked flawless!  Work continues on my Ebook where I will help you take photographs like this of waterfalls stay tuned….

You can find this waterfall near Covington, VA and it’s easily viewable from the overlook. Spring is on it’s way and you will be seeing more photographs like this once warm weather is here to stay.
