Travels For 2014

I’m looking forward to 2014 for sure!!! In the next few weeks I get to visit a couple places Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, NC all in one week to be exact. 🙂 I’m almost certain taking photographs on the beach will be way more fun than in the cold of Pennsylvania. From frozen fingers to sandy feet I will try to capture something amazing for my followers!

Photo Share – First Sunrise Of 2014

Here’s a shot I took up on the Blue Ridge Parkway on New Years Day… 24 degree’s and frozen fingers… I just can’t shoot with gloves on. Anyone have a recommendation for good photography gloves? Anyway back to the shot this one was 7 exposures using the Canon 6D and the 17-40mm F4L at f/16. Then it was edited using Photomatix 5.0, Photoshop Creative Cloud and NIK Collection.

Looking Back At 2013

Another year has almost come and gone. Looking back through this years photo’s a few stand out from the rest, for one reason or another. I had the chance to visit some new places this year like my trip in the spring to Savannah, GA. That trip was probably the most memorable of the year, I captured lots of great moments and landscapes some of which I have yet to share.

Some Of The Good

Throughout the year I feel  I made significant progress in my photography goals I set for the year.  One of the biggest goals I had set was to be published in a major publication, which I accomplished in the April/May edition of Mysterious Ways by Guideposts Magazine.  I was featured on the Outdoor Photographer Website back in June which was a great honor to have my work shown along side some of the best landscape photographers in the world. I created my first ever Landscapes & Nature Calendar for 2014 which is now available to order for $25.00.  This past week I have the featured photograph on the ViewBug Facebook and Google+ Pages.  So with all that I must say it’s been a great year and I hope to continue in this direction in 2014.

Some Of The Bad

I dropped my Canon 6D while visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but Canon CPS came through and had it fixed in a few days.  But the worst thing that happened in my life this year was losing a part of our family.. Lance our Siberian Husky passed away after 13 years of being a family’s best friend.

 Looking Forward To 2014

I hope to visit and explore new and exciting places this coming year and I will share these places with the world. My first ebook will be released in early spring of 2014 and possibly a second one shortly after that.  I’m looking forward to creating tutorials and videos to go along with my photographs in 2014 to bring an even better behind the scenes and helping others who want to learn.

We’ve recently added a new member to our family Angel who is our 12 week old Siberian Husky and a handful to say the least. 🙂

Here’s to a Happy Holidays to everyone!

Rocky Sunrise Featured On ViewBug Social Media

Yesterday I got a surprise email from ViewBug telling me they had selected one of my photographs to be the cover image on their Facebook and Google+ pages! Wow how cool is that!  I’m always like a little kid when one of my photographs is shared or picked to be featured! It makes you feel all good inside and work harder to capture something even better than the last one!

This one was from my trip back in the spring to Tybee Island, GA this spot is where the river meets the ocean. If you look closely you can see a tourist on the rocks who was also admiring the sunrise that cold windy morning. This was an HDR shot with the Canon 6D and the 17-40mm F4L lens set at F8. The post processing was done using Photomatix 5.0 and Google’s NIK Collection and then blended together in the end.

As the year draws to a close I start to reflect on my trips throughout the year and start planning for the ones I hope to take this year! Do you have a favorite place you would recommend me visiting?

Fall Colors In The Smoky Mountains

 Smoky Mountain Colors

This year my fall trip to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was a mixture of fun and photography! The weather was excellent unlike last year when fog took over for just about the whole trip and made for some blah colors. This year with the help of mother nature the colors were top notch and the air was clear for me to capture them. There are so many beautiful spots in the park that I have a hard time picking spots to photograph. I took this one on the Roaring Fork Motor Trail which I found to be full of spots including waterfalls, old structures and houses and of course the beautiful water. My personal favorite spot to stay during my journey is Wilderness at the Smokies, which combines a water park, golf courses and indoor fun center.

Photo Share – Dreaming Under The Pier

This one was from back from my summer vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, that I just got around to editing.  This one is a simple one image edit using Topaz B&W Effects and Photoshop Creative Cloud. One thing I love about a composition like this is the ability to capture that sense of depth in the image.  The one thing I tried different on this one was to use the fusion express 64bit processing combining Topaz B&W and Photoshop to bring out the details and light in the posts on the pier.

Shooting Multiple Exposures Canon 6D

I just got my Canon 6D back from Canon Professional Services and I have to say the level of service I received was even better than I expected! The repairs were done super fast the communication was spot on and they fixed my camera under warranty for free! Once I had the camera back I wanted to go out and test it right away so I took a trip up to Mill Mountain in Roanoke, VA and decided to shoot a multiple exposure image, first shot was the star then turned around and positioned this star over the city below. Editing was very simple adjusted the blacks slightly in Lightroom and did some cleanup to remove a sign on the lower left in Photoshop CC. (Note to self remember to check the settings in your camera after repairs… mine was set back to jpg and not raw)
